Sauna @ Siltasaari

Fun fact – there are five million inhabitants and over three million saunas in Finland – an average of one per household. For Finnish people the sauna is a place to relax with friends and family, but is also a typical part of other kinds of social gatherings including business and work related events.

We want to offer conference participants possibility to experience this essential part of Finnish culture.

We have separate sauna rooms for men & women at the venue, you don’t need to wear anything in the sauna but you can bring swim gear if that’s more in your comfort zone.  There is also a swimming pool and there are common areas for everyone to socialise together. If you are not in the mood for sauna you are most welcome to just hang out in good company.

What are you supposed to do in a Finnish sauna – and what not? Read 10 tips for the beginners!

Address: Paasivuorenkatu 3, 00530 Helsinki
Hours: 20:00 – 22:00 hrs (early session), 22:00-01:00 hrs (late session)
Capacity: 60 per session

The total capacity of the venue is 60 persons, we have divided the evening into an ‘early session’ and a ‘late session’. If you would like a calmer experience we recommend the earlier session and if you are interested in the party sauna experience we recommend the later session.  Beer and light refreshments will be available at the sauna.

Wellbeing Ideas for you

These ideas are to give you some ideas and inspiration if you wish to explore some sporting activities outside of the Conference schedule. We are not in a position to offer hosts or guides for these, but hope they can be self-organised by Conference attendees.

Running ideas

A nice central run around Helsinki can be found here.

Variations on the length of the run can easily be made, e.g. once round Töölönlahti is about 2km with challenging hill on the eastern side. For the longer loop at around 1.5km checkpoint is the statue of the “Flying Finn”, Paavo Nurmi — winner of nine Olympic gold running medals between 1920-28.

Finnair has three running route suggestions here

Swimming ideas

The summer is over but you can still enjoy the outdoor swim and not far from the conference venue! The stunning downtown Sea Allas Pool would be a fun experience of pool swimming and sauna, though the cost is €14. More info here.
