Estelle Hary

Designer, CNIL lab (linc)

Estelle Hary is a designer at the innovation and foresight lab of CNIL, the french data protection authority.

The team focuses on 3 missions:
– Explore emerging trends at the frontier between digital technologies, ethical issues and data through publications available on the LINC website.
– Exchange ideas and act as the main point of contacts for innovation ecosystems (start-ups, labs, academics…).
– Experiment innovation methodologies and produce or co-produce proof of concepts or prototypes around privacy issues.

The team regularly publishes more in-depth studies on a subject of future exploration, the IP reports (they can be found in the media library of the LINC website). The sixth issue of the studies, called “Shaping Choices in the Digital World, from dark patterns to data protection: the influence of UX/UI design on user empowerment” is an exploration of the challenges related to the design of digital services. It has lead to the creation of the Design Factory, a platform for design professionals to discuss their respective practices and co-build privacy-friendly design practices.

A graduate in interaction design from the ZHDK, Estelle has worked in information design studios, data science research labs and has co-founded studio Design Friction. She joined the CNIL in 2016 where she manages and designs digital products and services to help professionals in their compliance process and to help citizens better control their data.
